Guinness Christmas Experience at Ronnie Q

Part 2 of my Guinness Infused Festive menu brought me to Ronnie Q , Bangsar on this Christmas Day. Its Been around since the early 90's long during Bangsar's heyday as the to be seen place back then.

Being a typical Irish pub which pride itself as a Glenfiddich whiskey joint , Kilkenny and not forgetting Guinness. Naturally its got to be a part of the Guinness Festive promotion .

At RM23 nett it's a steal. For who doesnt know , it comes with free 1/2 pint of the black gold. Plus you'll get another coupon which entitles you to a RM12 off every 3 pints of Guinness ordered. Remember, promotion only valid till 31st December 2008 only.

Only Hainanese chop is available for this festive promotionand you get a choice of Chicken, pork or lamb is available. We opted for pork and chicken chop . The pork chop was kinda tasty but we found the chop a bit too salty, but luckily it was neutralized by the more subtle Guinness infused brown sauce. Luckily the chicken chop turned out better, as it was well marinated and juicy and less salty.....

Ronnie Q is at : 32, Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar Baru. 59100, KL Tel : 03-2282 0722
For those high tech ones with GPS nav : Lat 3.131721 , Long 101.671815

Directions : From Jalan Bangsar turns into Jalan Maarof. Go pass the mosque/Jalan Ara traffic light, take the first left turn ( Jalan Telawi 4 ) . Turn in and you would see a police beat base on your left and a convenience shop on your right. Turn right into the road leading uphill. Thats Telawi 2. And Ronnie Q is on your right just a stone throw away from Devi's corner.

Other landmark : Same row as La Bodega.

The GPS Coordinates was taken from KY Speaks. Thanks again KY !!!!

Vintry Cellar..The hidden gem of Damansara

The Vintry Cellar , is a hidden gem among the rows of shop houses in Medan Damansara, off Jalan Damansara. Hidden behind Victoria Station this place offers , a fair selection of premium wines and good food, which mainly features pork on its menu. The menu might not be extensive, but its good enough to complete a satisfying meal here. Oh yeah..if you are not satisfied with the menu on offer, you can always order from the restaurants along Jalan Kasah like Kah Soh Fish Head Noodles, The Rib Shop , Red's Japanese Restaurant. But trust me, once you had a starts to indulge on the menu, you wont be ordering anything else !!!!

Freied caramalized pork with spagetthi !! A perfect East meet West combination which surprisingly combined very well with our selection of red wine for the night.

The deer fried pork strips ( Rm 8 ) a must try !!! Fried marinated fah lam ( pork belly meat ) meat with fuh yue ( fermented bean curd ).

Our selection for the night. Ocio , a remarkably nice 2005 Chilean Pinot Noir produced by Cono Sur a premium renowed Chilean wine maker. Remarkably rare with only 1500 cases produced and its among the 59 bottles in Malaysia !! And we finished 2 of the 6 bottles available here !! At RM250, its a little bit expensive for a 2005 wine , but considered cheap for a Pinot of such a quality. It would be nice, if we could keep it for another 5 years ....................

The all time favourite Cuban Sandwich ( RM 18 ) . A thriple deck sandwich with loads of bacon , ham , gherkins and cheese. Would satisfy even the biggest appetite !!!!

Over all the bill came out to RM585 , which is due to the 2 wines which we finished !! Other wise the food only came out to a reasonable RM85 for 4 pax , which I would consider as reasonable for a cosy place like this...............

Oppsss......almost miss out one thing..their roast pork ( siew yoke ) is another dish to die for. Too bad since, we were too hungry, I didnt manage to snap any photos of those !!! Go try for yourself !!!

Taste & Taste Ipoh Salted Chicken

Salted baked chicken or “Yim Kok Kai (盐焗鸡)” is a specialty of Ipoh town and the most famous is no other than the pioneer itself, Aun Kheng Lim . Aun Kheng Lim Restaurant was established in 1987, it is easily identified via its red-and-white facade. The Salt Baked Chicken specially sold in Aun Kheng Lim is hard to find elsewhere, but not till now, when his brother in law opened a branch in Damansara Uptown 5 years ago.

Salted Baked Chicken

This shop located along SS21/56B offers the same delicious famous salted baked chicken where even the hardcores of this delicacy would give his approval. The Whole chicken is wrapped together with Chinese herbs such as Dong Guai or and Gei Zhi (wolfberry) in one piece of greaseproof paper and baked in an oven covered and filled with heated coarse salt crystals. It is indeed is a brilliantly treated and cooked, the flesh is tender and very tasty. It is the process of cooking in which salt is absorbed by the meat to enhance the taste. The combination of salt and herbs gives the meat a unique flavor. With this unique cooking technique, the chicken essence is well preserved as well. All the chicken used here are slightly smaller in size due to it is Kampung chicken which is has less fat compared to normal chickens sold in the wet market. And the chicken is own bred in their family farm in Bukit Mertajam !!!

Killer tangy chilli sauce to dip..

There are some vital hints, request them not to chop up the chicken . To eat use your fingers instead to tear out the flesh or parts and it is perfect with some mixture of pounded chili, garlic, onion and lime sauce dipping sauce. Also do not forget to ask for their herbal soup !!

Peking Sui Kow

Also on offered are their delicious Szechuan Dan Dan mee. This noodle is served in a sourish hot broth with some minced meat. Also worth mentioning is their Sui Kow nooodle. Price is kept affordable with RM20 for one whole chicken and RM11 for half and sets are also available.

Full moon sets for newborns are also available with choice of 1 or 1/2 salted chicken with red eggs.

This shop was also features in Astro's One Day Five Meals.

Directions :

Along LDP towards One Utama look out for the BHP station on your left. Turn in at BHP station and the restaurant is located about 100 metres further down on your left. Its same row as Damansara Uptowns The Ship restaurant.

Living Food Lam Mee, Damansara Uptown

Living Food has been around here in Damansara Uptown since the early 90's. Being a part of the famed May King restaurant in Pudu , lam mee is naturally their signature dish. Lam Mee lovers in KL, would have know May King as the Mecca of Lam Mee, where the best lam mee can be found in the whole of KL, if not Malaysia.

The full bodied gravy sets the lam mee apart from others ciplak imitation. Bursting with flavour made out of chicken and prawn stock, the thick gravy coats every strands of noodle and garnished with some shreaded steamed chicken and shelled prawns. For added kick, throw in some of their hot and fiery chilli sauce.

Their meatballs are also well known. Its not your usual run of the mill type, as its fully homemade unique to May King's family. Its a combination of pork, fish and cuttlefish. It really has a chewy texture bursting with the saltiness of the dried cuttlefish..its really a match made in heaven.

For non Lum Mee lovers , their curry laksa is also worth trying. And dont forget the fried foochok and dumplings .

Directions :

Its located in Damansara Uptown. Same row as Izzi's restaurant.

Map taken from KYSPEAKS.com

From LDP towards Kepong area slow down after you see the Damansara Police Station. Take a left turn just before the BHP Petrol station on your left. Turn left again to get to the row of shops behind . Drive straight and Living Food would be on your left.

Coffee Ritual @ Seksyen 14, Pj

Coffee Ritual is a refreshing change from the countless international boutique coffee chains that mushroomed across Klang Valley. This family owned coffee mecca started 5 years ago in Phileo Damansara and relocated to the current location just 8 months ago.

Whats interesting here is the use of siphon coffee maker . Consisting of 2 chambers , upper and lower , basic science are applied. Vapour pressure pushes the boiling water into the upper chamber which hold the ground coffee.

As the water moves from the lower chamber, the temperature drops to about 97-98c , which is just about the perfect temperature for brewing coffee. Its brewed for 50 seconds before the gravity pulls it back into the lower chamber. Its just like how rain is created ......

......time to enjoy my favourite cuppa, Sumatra Mandhelling

At Coffee Ritual , the specialities are their single origins gourmet coffees - Columbian special ( most popular ) , Brazil Fancy Santos, Sumatra Mandhellingand Java Arabica Jampit. This are all vacumm brewed. If this doesnt fancy you , they also do offer other choices like latte, cappucinno etc to suit your buds. Another worth mentioning is their extensive choice of menu's which is valued for money. A trully welcome nowadays with meals and coffee combo starting from RM10.50 ! For the same amount I cant even get an ice-blended in one of those chains.

Beef pie...freshly made.
Crepes !!!!!!

Damansara Village Seafood steamboat !

This former radio DJ owned seafood steamboat really serves a great fresh n tasty seafood steamboat. Live seafood arrives daily from Pulau Ketam to ensure its freshness. How fresh is fresh ??? Try it and you would know..a hint, dont scream if the prawns is still jumping the moment you throw it in the pot !!!

For 8 of us we ordered their seafood set which cost us RM169....which is just nice .......

Meat crab...was part of it

Green lip mussels also.......and not forgetting huge lala's ( below )

Fresh live tiger prawns which was still jumping on our plate....

The one which escaped from the pot ! See the tail which has turned red..call me barbarian or cruel...but the best way to have seafood is cook it when its still alive...less pain for the prawn rather than its left to die without water.....

Fresh red snapper which was still alive minutes ago . This is that I call fresh !

Our pot..with their signature Herbal Pot Soup which consist of chinese herbs and wine.

Red Wine Steamed La-la......Steamed with Chinese red wine, herbs and ginger marinate a mix of giant Sar Pak (giant clams) and local la-la and steamed to perfection.

How do I get there ??
